Not something I would use, plus I think it would make your head too hot and sweaty!

Longirod Trek hiking poles
In addition to FlickLock, look into poles with the SLS system. This type of extension has an expander/screw combination that you could lean on with your full body weight, and it's not going to go anywhere. I've been using poles with SLS for a few years now for both summer and winter hiking (my buddy took this picture of me while we were out last time) and I have had zero complaints.

They twist and lock to tighten at two different points on the telescope.

Questions
I am having trouble with my Longirod Trek hiking poles. I tighten the extension locks as tight as I can, but they still loosen up after only an hour of use. Is there a trick to this that I need to know about? Is this a defect that is covered by my warranty?

Time to break out the sled! (Josh, you should read) on Winter Sports
I know this may sound a bit cheesy and maybe I'm still just a kid at heart, but I love sledding! There is finally enough snow in a bowl up the canyon close to where I live that it's worth it to make the trip. Anyway, Josh, think I have found the perfect use for snowshoes. Back behind this bowl there are a bunch of snowshoe trails, and some of them get pretty steep. The great thing about the trails, though, is that they are giant one-way loops so you never face oncoming people. One of the trails gets really steep going downhill toward the end. I just got a little rocket sled that I can strap to my backpack so I can snowshoe to the top of this hill, take off my snowshoes and strap them on my backpack, and then sled down. I know. It's pretty much the greatest thing you've ever heard.

Expert advice: how to deal with a moose on the trail
Yeah, trust me I feel lucky. It's weird that the illustrations I always made fun of popped into my head at exactly the right moment. I guess that's why they make them so cheesy".that way we'll never forget! He was a small guy so I'm guessing he wasn't too smart, either.
